Milwaukee’s ‘Community Mayor,’ Reuben Harpole was honored recently at Bader Philanthropies, 3300 N. MLK Drive. A special luncheon was held in Reuben’s honor for his work as the Sankofa Program Officer at the Helen Bader Foundation. One of Reuben’s other projects was NORI, an organization which provides job training for youth and sponsorship of community sports activities. Reuben is a board member of NORI. He helps to raise funds and implements programs. NORI’s foundation was started by Nettie Weddle over 20 years ago. NORI has trained high school students for employment at McDonald’s on 9th and North Avenues, and Jizzle’s Sandwich Shop on State Street. For more information about the NORI program, call 414 380-2044. An official with Northwest Funeral Home also participated in the program by presenting a reading on Reuben’s life as a community Icon. Northwest is one of the largest funeral Homes in the State of Wisconsin.
