Bader Philanthropies Inc. will restore a vacant building next to its Milwaukee headquarters to house a coffee shop by the owner of City. Net Jazz Café, along with a Shalem Healing Inc. wellness center.
That building will be the second Bader Philanthropies has restored on North Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. The foundation a year ago settled into its new headquarters in a rehabbed building at 3300 North King Drive. The move is intended to create closer relationships with the surrounding central city community.
Bader Philanthropies also owns the vacant property to the north, and on Wednesday announced its restoration plan. Bader plans to expand an existing building by about 3,000 square feet, and reopen it in spring 2020. President and CEO Dan Bader said the future uses reflect needs communicated by neighbors in the area.
